I think of myself more in Eliot's terms, one who prefers to wait in stillness until the light breaks through and the dance begins. Although Wiman's language is quite magnificent, I do not see myself as a "whirlwind of wasted things" riding a "tantrum back to God." I find the comparisons, however, to be interesting, and that's the reason I decided to juxtapose these two poems.Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03959953035812596907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4002454922784880258.post-69844880979000113902013-01-02T08:33:15.773-05:002013-01-02T08:33:15.773-05:00Oh my George, the Wiman poem is absolutely wrenchi...Oh my George, the Wiman poem is absolutely wrenching. I am ever learning to opt for still over will - and the Wiman words tell me (once again) that is the way to go.

Hope this post does not represent what you are wrestling with at the moment....Bonnie Zieman, M.Ed.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00282469017360136275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4002454922784880258.post-805644621588491162013-01-02T07:37:47.787-05:002013-01-02T07:37:47.787-05:00Thanks, DOMINIC. I thought it was interesting to contrast Wiman's more aggressive approach to the soul with Eliot's penchant for stillness, waiting, and faith.Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03959953035812596907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4002454922784880258.post-40025251590011217082013-01-02T06:50:16.332-05:002013-01-02T06:50:16.332-05:00Thanks for these.
